Green Deal Advisor and Energy Assessor Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) Units Survey
Asset Skills has been commissioned by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to develop National Occupational Standards (NOS) relevant to the functions carried out by the Green Deal Adviser, including remote advice, and to enhance the NOS relating to the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the new Energy Performance Certificate. These NOS are now completed and QCF units have been developed from them which we are now consulting on. We would be grateful if you would complete the questionnaire to enable us to finalise the QCF units which will then form the basis of new and revised QCF qualifications.

There are three discrete sets of QCF units:

Green Deal Advisors covering: the principles, financing and operation of the Green Deal; carrying out Occupancy Assessments; preparing and explaining Domestic and Non-Domestic Green Deal Advice Reports; determining an Operational Profile; and providing advice on energy efficiency measures and reducing energy consumption.

Green Deal Remote Advisors covering: providing information to customers on the principles, financing and operation of the Green Deal; explaining the Domestic and Non-Domestic Green Deal process via the remote advice service including Energy Performance Certificates; and providing remote advice on energy efficiency and sustainability measures.

Domestic and Non Domestic Energy Assessors covering: conducting energy assessments of domestic property and non-dwellings using the Simplified Building Energy and the Dynamic Simulation Models; producing Energy Performance Certificates and Display Energy Certificates; and producing Operational Ratings and Advisory reports.

The NOS are now very nearly ready and you can view them on the Asset Skills website

Extract from an email received from Asset Skills....

''Green Deal Skills update

In preparation for the launch of Green Deal, the Government’s flagship policy for improving energy efficiency within the built environment, Asset Skills is raising awareness of the following:

New Green Deal Energy Advice National Occupational Standards

Asset Skills has developed new National Occupational Standards for the roles of Green Deal Energy Advisors (domestic and non-domestic) and remote Green Deal Energy Advice.

The standards are currently being signed off by the home nations and will be finalised in line with the Government’s Green Deal policy consultation (available on the Department for Energy and Climate Change website).''

Are there any indications as to what Training Companies are expecting to charge for a "DEA Upgrade" to a fully qualified GDA? and how much Training Companies may charge for a GDA to train from scratch?

It is my hope that the costs will be reasonable but I have to admit that I have no idea as it will depend upon the length of the course, portfolio requirements etc.

For existing DEA's / HI's

Having looked at the NOS- I would tentatively guess at 2 days- Cost Unknown at ths stage but approx. £600 ( This would not include Assessment, Verification, ABBE registration)

For New Entrants

A minimum of 5 Days of intensive learning with considerable distance learning

The above is my opinion only and I will keep you informed as further information becomes available.

Do you think the Green Deal will bring a massive surge in people taking this qualification or just people already in the industry re-qualifying, I would have thought this a great career opportunity from those outside.

I am not sure there will be a massive surge but have noted an incresing level of activiy from those wishing to train as DEA's in order to have a head start when/If this thing actually happens in October 2012!!
